Only one update: it’s likely a hunter. But it doesn’t state what makes them think that. A piece of clothing would be my guess.

Yeah that's strange, partial remains and deceased some 5 years, it's probably a hunter. ?
I was thinking maybe a rifle or whatever hunters use was found with his remains.
Or maybe the "distinctive jewelry" made them think so. Wish there was a picture.

Lacrosse is a river college town that has been known to have college age persons go missing and found in the Mississippi. I'm curious for the details of the body that led them to believe it was a hunter other than the mossy oak underwear because i can't imagine those being functional as hunting gear.

Pasting article text before link disappears, as happens over time.
”The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify the remains of a male subject found a half-mile south of La Crosse.
The sheriff’s office was notified Tuesday of possible human remains discovered in a Mississippi River slough. Police responded to the scene, along with the La Crosse County dive unit and medical examiner’s office, and recovered partial human remains.
The sheriff’s office says the calcified remains had been in the river for some time and that most of the person’s clothing had disintegrated. The condition of the body indicates it may have passed through a lock and dam upriver.
A distinctive piece of jewelry was found with the remains, and the sheriff’s office hopes it can be used to identify the body.”

I keep looking for updated info, but there's been none. I did find a news article about another man, pulled from another river in Wisconsin last year, that was only recently id.

A pic of the ring has been added to the NamUs link:
also the brand of jeans, De Cree, is pretty fancy, i don't think a hunter is wearing those.
That looks like a mens wedding band for sure. With the red flecks, it could’ve been a firefighter. I agree that he was probably not hunting in those jeans.

Could it be
Brian Lee Barrett - Clothing style-wise seems a match.
or
Cody Christle was known to wear rings
or
Joshua Guimond - this is also a match style-wise and was known to be wearing blue jeans when last seen.
or
Todd Jay Hanson
or
Todd Lawrence Lano missing since 5/31/2017 last seen wearing blue jeans
or
Daniel (Danny) Newville
or
Eric Michael Peterson
Or
Brandon Richart

Googled the "CJ Titanium ring" as the first two words seem to be what's inscribed on the inside of the ring. We can possibly believe that the man was married (or at least in a committed relationship), as I've found that it's most likely a wedding ring. While seemingly not the same brand and not the same color, this search result is strikingly similar: ZAYDEN Black Titanium Ring with Blue & Black Carbon Fiber Inlay and Bevels - 8mm

CJ (inside a circle) is the maker's or seller's mark. Unfortunately it's not much help. The ring itself is inexpensive, the kind of ring one can get in bulk off Amazon or Aliexpress. As a matter of fact I've found this exact ring being sold in several sites across the web. Example:

Carbon Core Red

It might be made by ChengJin Titanium out of China or CJ Titanium out of India, or a jewelry company in similar locales. Titanium is the metal. The inlay is (allegedly) carbon-fiber, more likely fiberglass, under glass. This style is popular because it's cheap--no precious metals or diamonds--and durable. Mostly as wedding rings but you never know. (Assuming it's even his to begin with--maybe he just found it on the floor and put it in his pocket.)

Here's my theory: the relationship that the ring signified ended, and the UID put the ring in their pocket. Distraught, they decided to end their life that day by jumping into the river. Being on the lower end of the 15-25 age range, the decedent was not legally married, but the ring simply symbolized a commitment.

I am from this area and this person could have also come from the Winona MN area. There are bridges and lots of college/high school people in that area. Could have gone down stream from Winona. Unsure if the timeline fits though.

Hello Everyone,

I shared this same information w/ NAMUS and the La Crosse County Sheriff's Office today via email, but I'm attaching it here as well in case anyone wants to look into it further or has more details. No smoking guns or anything unfortunately, just circumstantial ties at best.

(Notably, this individual is noted as wearing 5 large rings, and a ring is one of the key pieces of potentially identifying evidence/information that was found with the John Doe)

I parsed these down based on location, date of last contact, age, and other features. The most distinctive person here is Cody Robert Christle, given that it mentions "5 large rings," although Hinckley MN is a pretty far shot from where the remains were found in La Crosse. Nevertheless, the original report does mention the strong possibility of the remains moving downriver, so still worth looking into.
