Zahra Baker Documentary

The three-part documentary, Zahra's Story, chronicles the tragic death, investigation and legal saga of the 10-year-old Australian girl who was murdered by her stepmother. The documentary has three segments:

Zahra's Story, Part 1: The Girl from Down Under, which told of her life before coming to the US

Zahra's Story, Part 2: New Life in North Carolina that detailed how her life began to unravel at the hands of her abusive stepmother and neglectful father.

Zahra's Story, Part 3: Murder and Mourning, which laid out the investigation into her death and dismemberment, the Hickory Daily Record's quest to get search warrants, and the conclusion of Elisa Baker, the stepmother, pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

"However, Vincent Picard, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in an email Monday that Baker had "voluntarily departed" the U.S., which Pearce disputed.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement Tuesday that "Mr. Baker was deported from the United States to Australia in January." The department provided no other details.

Zahra's biological mother Emily Dietrich said her daughter's remains might have been buried in Australia without her knowledge.

Dietrich rejected the prospect of dividing the ashes with Adam Baker.

"The way that her murder was carried out, splitting her ashes just seemed so tasteless," Dietrich said. "She's already in pieces.""

Hundreds of volunteers needed to build Zahra's playground

"Break out the work clothes, the dates are set to build the Zahra Baker All Children’s Playground at Kiwanis Park.

A host of volunteers will join with the Kiwanis Clubs of Catawba County, the City of Hickory and several sponsors April 12-14 to make the highly anticipated playground a reality.

The playground will have a 50-foot slide, a play web of interactive features, a sand area, swings and more. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday effort will require hundreds of volunteers.

Volunteers will be limited to one shift per person. A waiting list will be kept in the event that volunteers can take additional shifts.

The Hickory Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration from now until March 23. Call 828-261-2248. Volunteers must be 18 or older to participate in the construction."

Arrest Warrant Issued for Zahra Baker's Father

Authorities in Caldwell County have issued an order for the arrest of Adam Baker to face pending charges, although he returned to Australia more than a month ago.

The Hickory Daily Record reports that Baker was scheduled to appear in court Monday for failure to return rental property. When Baker's case was called, attorney Shell Pierce said he had been in contact with the Australian Consulate as well as immigration officials and assured the court that Baker was in Australia. Baker left the U.S. on Jan. 19.

The district attorney's office said it would not drop the charges.

-----why the *$&* did they let him leave the U.S. in the 1st place ?????
