It was defiantly rented smelling of smoke, so they most likely didn't get it properly cleaned beforehand. It's funny that she says she did this to "save money", yet renting from an airport not only starts you out with a higher rate, but you pay an extra 12% or so in airport fees and taxes.

I agree completely. She does not exhibit any real signs of being a victim of abuse, quite the opposite actually. Her lack of understanding of the dynamics of an abusive relationship is shocking to me though considering she is using this as her defense.
