I'm curious, too. The latest article I read stated the remains had been there a few years. That's kind of a subjective timeline. A few years to me could be three to five, and 10+ to someone else. I'm hoping they're identified soon and those responsible brought to justice.
I agree with the initials and the names theory. I also think Jiggs could have been his nickname, too, possibly derived from his last name, like Giggings, or Giguere.
