To locals: Is there manhunt kind of activity going on for JLM? Like roadstops and lots of LE activity? Very hard to derive from mainstream media, notwithstanding the wanted poster and warrants. I hope this is an appropriate question.

I still can't figure out how a person who can't pay his rent, or keep his license or insurance up to date, etc., can go into what must be a pricey upscale bar and buy "drinks" with such ease. It's odd to me.

"Stepped off the face of the earth" was a very poor choice of words in my opinion. Reasonable people could interpret that as a factual disclosure on the one hand or an emotional outburst on the other. Either way, not very helpful under the circumstances. Again, IMO.

FWIW, I think "drinks" is kind of a British term that doesn't really require multiples. IIRC I think in this case the term was first used in the UK Daily Mail article.
