You should explore this Highland Pl.. I lived just off it, and it is my absolute favorite residential area of DC. The homes are beyond gorgeous. You could build in a stroll past the SS place and visit the Zoo and Cathedral and have a beautiful sleuth fest while enjoying your exercise.
If they ticket on itty bitty, hidden, Highland Pl., there's no way they'd give that street a pass. If the city gives any block a break, I believe it's in a different ward. (Moo, said the cash cow.)
Totally off topic, but, that reporter looks so much like my husband's old boss, it stops me in my tracks every time that image pops up on the thread. Sooooo weird.
I used to have to do that commute (past Chantilly out to Dulles, actually) for HQ meetings a few times a month. But it was always at rush hour, a reverse commute though. I expected to be on time if I passed the NRA by Fair Oaks in an hour.
That said, if I went at the right time of day with...
Who do we think we know was at the scene the second day the events took place? I wish I had any ideas at all, except of course JW. Who do we think reached out to the police when the arson was discovered? I think we believe that NG and W-2 initiated contact. Poor Vera's husband, perhaps initiated...

I think you very well could be right about running the plates! Quick, easy, cheap to find out if it was stolen or owned by someone with a history of arson or home invasions. I just don't know if I think I'd agree they'd have tied the car to a possibly new, part-time, casual employee who may have...
Would the car have looked out of place? If I had a fairy godmother, I'd ask her to do a census of cars that time of day in that neighborhood to see the percentage on the street of older, of out of area plates in zoned parking, that were not commercial vehicles. If of 100 more than 20 fit that...
I actually think they were waiting to find out about the driver or owner or possible stolen status of the car, but still don't necessarily believe they knew right away that JW was a witness/suspect/target/POI/unlucky dolt. I think the car was worth looking at because it was in zoned parking and...
