Yes, there were other options, but no one knew in advance what the verdict and penalty would be. If the Anthonys had not lied to cover for her, she may have been found guilty of 1st degree murder. Not likely, with the sexual abuse allegations, but possible. Also possible they didn't want her to...

For me, it's because there seemed to be a lot of social chit/chit going on back in the day about Xanax (can't remember the details, thought it was mentioned in Casey's emails or something), the dark circles under Caylee's eyes, Zanny the Nanny, the chloroform search, and her party lifestyle...

Why they protected Casey--If the death penalty hadn't been on the table, things might have turned out differently. It would be pretty hard for a parent to help send their child to death row, no matter what they had done. Wish the prosecution hadn't asked for the death penalty.

Your version of how Caylee died was what I always thought, assuming it wasn't deliberate. I could be wrong, but I don't think Casey was living at home for the "31 days". The parents were trying to track her down and talk to Caylee, but she always blew them off. It was only when Cindy found out...

Mistakes made that led to Casey being aquitted...

I don't agree with Wendy101 that the story made perfect sense, I felt it didn't make any sense. But it appears the jury bought it enough to raise reasonable doubt. The only reason I said the defense did a great job is because they turned the trial into a circus. First, with their disgusting lie...

Mistakes made that led to Casey being aquitted...

It's coming from the jurors, who said after the trial that THEY didn't think the evidence was sufficient to convince them beyond a reasonable doubt that FCA was guilty of anything. Your statements are all true, and we all agree with them. Either the jurors were lying or they just didn't...

Mistakes made that led to Casey being aquitted...

A couple of the jurors said afterwards they were convinced George was involved. Where did that come from? From the time Baez gave his opening statement, George was put on trial and attacked relentlessly by the defense.

Mistakes made that led to Casey being aquitted...

I don't really know how to explain this--we all agree that Baez's fairy tale was ridiculous, and no one in their right mind would even consider it as reasonable doubt. It apparently DID raise a reasonable doubt in the jurors' minds, because they acquitted FCA of all charges despite the mountains...

Mistakes made that led to Casey being aquitted...

Everyone on this forum understands reasonable doubt, that's what we've all been talking about. The defense had nothing whatsoever, the prosecution had a boatload of evidence, yet FCA was found not guilty of anything. So the defense threw out a fairytale and the jurors bought it. My comment about...

Mistakes made that led to Casey being aquitted...

Agree the defense did a great job--don't agree that a defense attorney's opening statement, a story never before heard, with no evidence offered during the trial to back it up, should be used as reasonable doubt by any thinking person. It has crossed my mind that Caylee did indeed drown in the...

Mistakes made that led to Casey being aquitted...

I totally understand jury duty is no picnic, esp for that case. But if they were just in a hurry to get out of there, how about a mistrial? At the beginning, the jury was split 6/6 for manslaughter (1st degree was never going to happen). I will never understand how all 6 for manslaughter were...

Does anyone know if FCA ever took a polygraph test?

Here's juror # 3's explanation of how they got around the duct tape: "In our country unfortunately we have to prove it...it smells bad, looks bad, yeah I get that. But it's someone else's life, and if Im wrong, I can't live with that." In other words, they completely disregarded the duct tape.
