I'm a data nut, so I found this article fascinating!
Was VM strangled? The article notes that serial killers strangle more often. They ought to check unsolved murders in PR:

Thanks v much! Another quick question: at any one given time, roughly how many cases does the typical Asst. DA have on his or her desk?
Also, I hope this whole Troopergate does not distract the execution of this prep - to your point, they only have one shot. And if I recall, Ortiz' defense...
Can someone explain why the process is so drawn out? Why does the system take so long to prosecute these cases? It drives me nuts, so I cannot even image what the family thinks.

I am still confused about the second scene they were searching - I would find it hard to believe she was killed elsewhere, but some on this topic have noted there are houses pretty close by.

If he had the can beforehand it would support the premeditation case, clearly. But I agree why not get gas beforehand?
Maybe she struggled so much (and so courageously) he was spooked about DNA trail and decided to get gas. Throwing the carpet away makes sense.

This is great. The Colleen Ritzer (Danvers teacher slain by a student) Foundation has taken off and I suspect it provides her family with an amazing cause that keeps her spirit alive while benefitting students who earn scholarships. I pray Vanessa's foundation meets as much success.

An interesting piece on serial killers. It disposes of several stereotypes.
Makes me wonder if VM was accused's first victim. If accused was also involved in other incidents what does this say about what may have happened before he arrived in Worcester...
I wouldn't think the Marcotte family would settle for anything but first degree. I believe such decisions to accept/consider any plea deals are made in coordination with the victim's family. Rocky would know for sure most likely.

That's much better to know. Kind of surprised the police allowed him to accept it before a conviction but as you say it was worded appropriately.

I have my own theory on this but it's probably not good to speculate and there is no sense in trying to aid the defense. To me it does sound kind of hard to believe. But I hope it turns out to be true and the trooper is lauded even more.
