Those statements don't seem to jive with what CNN was reporting last night. They said her vehicle was stationary and across the road for about three minutes before the shooting happened. There is one clip floating around that appears to be from the same video they show which shows the SUV...
Yes they are trained to deal with it. Unfortunately sometimes they lead to use of force due the actions of one of the people involved or both of the people involved. I think for the most part, most officers don't want to have thing escalate just like most civilians don't want to have things...
I think you would be surprised at the number of people who have no problems getting violent with LE for whatever reason.
I will agree that imbalance changes all of that.
There are bad officers out there who create the situations leading to injuries just like they are civilians who create the situations that lead to their injuries.
And how many of those estimated injuries were caused by a situation going from non threatening to threatening and the situation turning violent?
You're right they shouldn't be in the habit of executing civilians.
And I 100% agree that it should be a last resort. I think it was a split second reaction to draw and fire with how fast everything happened and he made the wrong decision considering he had time to move out the way to avoid being hit
So they shouldn't be prepared to defend themselves if a situation turns life threatening? They can't read minds and tell when a situation is going to go from non threatening to threatening in a second.
I'm talking law enforcement in general. Just because it hasn't happened to ICE agents doesn't mean it won't happen. It still doesn't change the fact that they have to be prepared for something to go wrong and turn life threatening in an instant and that goes for every law enforcement agency.
How many times have officers been put in life threatening danger in situations where the person wasn't doing anything threatening? Sadly that action is one learned in blood over the years which is why they do it
Her car moved towards him before he drew his weapon. He reacted to her front tires spin on the slick pavement and the vehicle starting to move forward before he drew and fired. That movement of the vehicle played a part in what happened plain and simple. That's not me blaming her as I don't...
Simply put, they never know when a situation will require them to draw their weapon in a defensive situation and it reduces the time needed to react to a potential threat. Whether people like that action or not, having their hand on their weapon could mean the difference between life and death...
Having his hand on his weapon and drawing it are two different things. He doesn't start to draw until he hears/sees the front times spin momentarily and the vehicle starts to move towards him.
