Exactly.... which could also demonstrate that these children did not have uncontrollable challenging behaviours which required them to be shackled in the home

Sometimes I feel I live in a bubble... and it is always distressing in this day and age, when many voices in our society feel that people with disabilities have less rights than the rest of us. The notion of restraints is archaic and inhumane. If the defense tries to say they had disabilities...

I agree completely about "invisible chains"... psychologically, these can be as effective as physical ones. IF (and this is a big IF) any of the children had challenging behaviours, it is unlikely that these "behaviours" would not surface when out in public and in completely foreign...

According to the media, people have indicated how well behaved, quiet and polite they were. They visited Disneyland without being tied up. The siblings seemed very compliant in the videos and weren't tied up.

From my perspective, a big fat "NO". Having worked with people with disabilities for decades, my response is a huge 'NO". I work for an organisation whose role is to protect the rights of people with disabilities and I find the notion that they may have been chained up because of their...

IN - Allegations of child abuse at Hephzibah House, Winona Lake, 2018

As I started reading this thread, this is what came to my mind also. Many people in power (no matter their political leanings) are nervous and will not want to be seen as complicit in any way. It is indeed a sad world, when the right to religious freedom holds greater weight than the right of...

I understand where the term comes from, I was suggesting we use sibling #1 instead of thing #1... that's all IMO

My hope for these siblings is that they are provided with all the support and services they need to reach their full potential... that they are supported to make decisions about their lives and build as much independence as possible. That as they develop confidence in making their own decisions...

Perhaps the word "sibling" should be used instead of "thing" - such a dehumanising term and we are normalising it by using it here. I know why it started being used here and I know no one means any offence, which is why I am not quoting anyone, but the language we are using to talk about this...

Thank you Tricia for your post about the photos. While I appreciate your comment is about the minors, I feel all of the siblings should be given that courtesy. Every time I see a photo of the siblings with their faces shown, I feel that that it is just adding to the abuse and degradation these...

I understand exactly what you are saying... whether that is the case here, we will just have to wait and see. In all walks of life, there are people who own up to what they do and those who always go for the cover-up, even if they never intended to do whatever created the need for a cover up in...

While I agree with your comment Betty, I would add that it is all leaders, of all industries and sectors, political leaders, community leaders etc, who ALL need to say enough is enough and bring about real change that reduces sexual assault and domestic violence and seek to change people's...

MN - Morgan Evenson, 27, survives brutal knife attack, Minneapolis, 13 Dec 2017

Actually, I had the same question when I first read this thread but decided not to post it in case it was taken the wrong way... and it was actually a genuine question! It's a horrific crime... very sad that sport plays a role in whether it gets air time... I never really understand many of the...
