We had tons of snow the previous weekend so I'm thinking there would have been obvious red spots indicating that someone had been killed at the site. The snow was definitely still there when police were searching Craig Creek.
Red shirting just means you don't play sports your freshman year--you practice but don't actually compete. It gives you an extra year to participate (5 years vs. 4) so maybe he was planning on taking longer than usual to graduate?

I work at VT. Doubt the cameras caught anything. It's a pretty large pond. Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but there's a cross-country trail that runs right by the pond/Vet school, so maybe that's why they are checking there? He would have been very familiar with that part of campus.
