Sometimes my 5 year old is in bed by 6. I don't make him go to bed that early (he lets us know when he's ready for bed) but sometimes he's ready at 6. (Usually it's 7 or so). He's an early riser though (like 4:30-5:30 a.m.).

    CAR SEAT discussion

I think the seat was probably just used because it was the extra seat they had. Either they knew he had outgrown it but didn't think it was a big deal or they didn't know it was outgrown. In following car seat safety groups I've come to realize a lot of people have their seats installed...

I think I will have to agree to disagree with regards to the last sentence there. The Chicco Keyfit 30 manual states, "ONLY USE this Child Restraint with children who weigh between 4 and 30 pounds (2 and 13.5 kg) and whose height is 30 inches (76 cm) or less. DO NOT use this child restraint if...

Yeah, he could breathe fine. I wouldn't have put him in there if I thought I was going to hurt him. The other week when I strapped him in to check, he was actually laughing while I did it (Not so much this time because he wanted to play with the magnets), and kept trying to sit back in it, so I...

    CAR SEAT discussion

Alright, had a request to take a photo of my son in the seat. I had to take it quick because he was mad at me for interrupting his play with the refrigerator magnets. :) This is the Chicco Keyfit 30 infant seat, which I believe is the same one Cooper had. And, this is my 22 month old son...

Yes, the hood (sunshade) is velcroed on and can be removed. BTW, someone mentioned in the General thread that it would be impossible to secure the straps at the lowest setting. I didn't want to keep talking about the car seat over there, since we have this new thread, so I'll mention it here...

The Chicco Keyfit isn't one of those seats. If he had reached the 30 inch height limit (which according to the hearing he had) then the seat is outgrown, regardless of if he still had an inch of shell or not.

GA - Suspicion over heat death of Cooper, 22 mo., Cobb County, June 2014, #10

I grew up in Georgia and now live in Arizona. I much prefer the dry heat over the humidity, but yes, any way you slice it, when it gets to 115 or more ... it sucks, dry heat or not.

Legally he could face the front at his age, BUT it is much safer for him to be rear facing. AAP recommends kids stay rear facing until a minimum of 2 years old. NHTSA recommends kids stay rear facing until they meet the rear facing limits of their convertible car seat (which for average kids is...

And we already know he had outgrown the seat bc the hearing mentioned he had exceeded the height limit by a few inches. Once he met one of the limits (30 inches or 30 lbs or head 1 inch below the top of the shell) he had outgrown it even if he hadn't exceeded them all. Most kids will hit the...

GA - Suspicion over heat death of Cooper, 22 mo., Cobb County, June 2014, #9

I have a 21 month old and the same car seat (he's in a different one now since he's outgrown it) so I moved the straps to the lowest setting and put him in there just to see a few minutes ago. I was able to get the straps on him and secured (barely) in the lowest position BUT I basically had...

GA - Suspicion over heat death of Cooper, 22 mo., Cobb County, June 2014, #7

Oh yeah, I agree and think he was probably in a different (convertible) seat by this point, unless he was just really short or he had exceeded the seat limits but they didn't realize it and kept him in it. I think average kids outgrown this seat around 1 year, though some can make it longer if...
