Lots of comments about the lack of injury to his face. It's hard to tell with a face mask. However he seems to have a bruise on his forehead in this shot.
It's all bizarre, he appears to be a mad man. He left evidence everywhere seemed to walk in front of every CCTV camera in the town. The motive is still unclear. Some suggestions he may have broken up with his partner recently. Possibly fuelled a hatred of women?
Posts online allegedly saying that he said he was attacked when presenting with stab injuries. Suggesting it was attempt to tie in his other injuries with a fake story. This could all be untrue but it's speculation.

I would take the disablity payment with a grain of salt. I would not take being on that payment as a fact someone is disabled. People with all sorts of minor issues and non at all are on that payment. It is an abused payment.
Looking over the reporting it seems Gardai have a good case. CCTV footage of him in the area. Multiples witnesses ID him at the scene. A bike at the scene covered in prints etc. His wounds from Ashlings brave defence.
The media is suggesting he is known to the suspect but not related. It is alleged this person collected the suspect after the cowardly act and drove him to relatives in Dublin.
It's impossible to know. Gardai have moved his family to a safe house. Gardai according to media reports are still insisting it was a random attack. The search for a weapon is ongoing in the canal and a bottle bank close to the scene has been sealed off.
Nobody knows his history he seemed to move around a lot of countries. Someone capable of this is very likely to have engaged in weird behaviour in the past. I would very much doubt that he was "normal" and suddenly just decided to attack a woman last Wednesday.
It appears at the moment that it is being viewed as a random attack. He did follow another woman on this route. No motive as of yet. Possibly an attempt at a sex attack but brave Ashling fought and he was unable to carry out the attack.
