This is definitely a possibility. I find it strange that I can locate no record in Atlanta newspaper archives. I'll start looking at alternative dates. Of course the only issue with this theory is that the Dead played the Omni Coliseum which was even further away from the scene of the accident...

Yes, they were both dead at the scene and their injuries were so catastrophic that they both quite likely died instantly. The accident occurred at 1:30pm in the afternoon.

I am also coming up completely empty in searches of Atlanta newspaper archives to find any mention of this hit and run accident or unidentified individual, or his death almost a year later.
