GUILTY UK - Madison Horne, 2, beaten to death, Kelty, Fife, 20 April 2014

Guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum 22 years. That wee girl's mother left her in the care of a man with 38 previous convictions including violent offences. Heartbreaking.

GUILTY UK - Madison Horne, 2, beaten to death, Kelty, Fife, 20 April 2014

I can't find a thread about this trial but here is an update for you Zweibel and anyone else who is interested. I have been following the trial on our local news and what this little girl has gone through just doesn't bear thinking about. The evidence regarding her injuries, which included a...

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

I hope Carl P is just as quick to praise the wisdom and experience of the state prosecutors and appeal judges if an appeal is lodged and successful. Will he and Uncle A still be singing JM's praises if she sentences OP to 15 years in prison? Or are they not worrying about that because they...

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

I don't remember OP's exact words but when giving evidence (or telling lies as I prefer to call it), he said something along the lines of "if Reeva had just spoken to me............. it wouldn't have happened". Now, if you believe his 'version' that could mean that if she had shouted, he would...

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

I don't think so Interested Bystander (although I usually tend to agree with your posts) as it's a separate charge/offence, but I do think that JM found OP guilty of CH instead of acquitting him to prevent an appeal and also so that he wouldn't appear to be getting off scot free. Just my...

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

If this is how poor their justice system is when the eyes of the world are upon it, then heaven only knows what happens behind closed doors. I think the article posted above by Interested Bystander is an indication. Even with all the unrest and division in Scotland just now, I feel very grateful...

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

Reeva's mum said that the only time she had ever spoken to OP was when Reeva called her to say that she was in the car with OP and he was driving so fast she was terrified.

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

Well having listened to Reeva's parents on the BBC, I agree with them...I don't believe his 'version' either, and find it hard to understand how the court could have believed it...particularly when the Judge actually said that he had lied. What an absolute travesty. The SA 'justice' system...

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

This is my understanding of it too Rosie, and have been wondering if JM found him guilty of a lesser charge to prevent an appeal. If she had cleared him on all charges then the state could have appealed it. Seems as though she has done her best to ensure that OP is not punished once, never mind...

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

Lux et veritas, he looks as though he is holding back a smile there; obviously I can't read his mind but would hazard a guess that he's thinking "see, told you I always win" Edited to add Cherwell: snap!

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

Yes, I don't think he is used to having to face consequences for his actions. I think he feels far more sorry for himself than for the people he has hurt.

Discussion between the verdict and sentencing

Me too buntspecht, I think we will be waiting for a long time. I keep imagining JM saying at sentencing that the poor wee soul (or the SA equivalent as JM isn't Scottish AFAIK) has suffered enough...it's a shame, his life is in ruins, career cut short, massive paper hankie bill, expense of...
