Not necessarily. Texas inmates can receive stationery, envelopes and a limited number of other supplies, provided they are sent directly from the store or manufacturer. Mama Darlie could have ordered the stationery and had it sent in to her.

I noticed that, too. I do prison ministry in the Texas prison system (although I've never been to Darlie's unit), and I was a bit surprised that she was wearing them. I'm wondering if it was a special concession for the cameras (although Texas is not known for making such allowances). Very curious.

Yeah, I guess that does pose a bit of a problem for her, doesn't it? Since she's the innocent victim in all this, it wouldn't do to have to admit her own guilt. My sleuthing brain was asleep on that one. :doh:

Actually, I think that's one of the most plausible explanations. Of course, since Darlie maintains her innocence and we can't get inside her head to see the truth, we may never know. I think it's the novelist in me that likes this explanation. Fiction writers prefer that loose ends be tied up...
