Question for those with more tech knowledge. Can police obtain the actual data from text messages from the phone company if the phones are not recovered? I understand the messages are held on a SIM card - but does phone company store that also, or just records of when texts / calls were sent...

On a 70-acre property, it's not a coincidence they dug a hole right on top of the oil tank. The big question is - did they come upon it due to tools LE were using and detected something underground? Or were they able to spot a surface area that they could tell was recently disrupted?
