My first time looking at this case/thread, but since Meaghan's post is from March 2017, and articles listing her as missing were still being published seven months later, I'm inclined to believe it was based on the initial positive with the dental match (which was only based on four teeth)...
I have nothing of particular worth to add, however, whenever reading about or thinking on Ruth's disappearance, and that her parents requested the investigation be closed, I always find myself asking if instead of knowing what happened to Ruth (whatever it was they believed happened to her)...
That's what I've thought since I first read about the case. It might be possible that the police/private investigators even found this real Julia Otis and questioned her, and the records reflecting this were destroyed or lost. I'm curious if the name the kidnapper chose was a coincidence, or if...
The horrific things men do to women, especially when there's child support or alimony involved.
And; HIS BOND IS ONLY 70K???? What was that judge thinking?
I just found out that the drinking age in NY in 1971 was 18. If she was out drinking with friends, it's perfectly believable that the alcohol was provided by someone who wasn't involved in her disappearance, such as a girlfriend only a couple years older. I would still like to know where the...
Poor little Mary Agnes. I hope that "Julia Otis" was well enough to take care of a child, and that Mary Agnes grew up healthy and happy and completely unaware of her true origins.
As to whether or not she'd been out that afternoon or if she'd stayed home. As in, did she nick a beer from her folk's fridge, or had she been out drinking with friends?
They've done studies that show people-men, especially-are much more likely to intervene with a woman in distress if they know it's not her boyfriend or husband. My mother's always told me to yell "You're not my husband!" or "You're not my boyfriend! I don't know you!" if I was being attacked or...
Look, my entire family is made up of junkies and drunks, with the exception of my mother, who was a bartender. I am telling you that cocaine and heroin were not prominent or popular in Sumter, SC in 1976! Yes, it was intercepted, but it wasn't the intended final destination. This just wasn't a...
Yeah, I think that's one of the best possibilities. If it were someone who lives/lived in Sumter I think we would've heard more whispers & rumors over the years, it being such a small county. I really think it was either The Family or an opportunity killer.
Oh, and yeah, I've had several of...
Great work, but something to consider: Hugo. Hurricane Hugo in 1989 caused extensive damage to the area, wiping out a great many trees, etc, and causing a great deal of road work, new tree planting, etc. to occur. Plus, I would bet my last dollar that most of those roads look a lot different...
I don't see the resemblance with either one. Carbuff you're straight on with the nose thing, plus the UID male was quite a bit thinner... the chin also looks different, as well as the shape of the jaw.
