Security cameras are a “normal” thing in Jamaica. I have the blink system at my house, (purchased on Amazon) but also synced to all the Alexa devices that announces motion / detection when armed. My mother and Aunt are both 83 and live in a very large home, on many acres so they have a...
I want to add that we in Jamaica are very blessed, most of us have had long standing housekeepers for years and years who become our family members. My example before was about a recently hired Gardener, who we did not get references for, as he was already working with other homes in our gated...
We are also careful re: what you wrote here - it really hit me in so many ways - because it is so imperative to have recommendations of workers. We only just had a relatively new Gardener asking for rum, and wine he saw on our Bar (through the windows) - & then just show up another time in...
Totally agree…red flags were up, that means very choppy, rough seas. We have drownings all the time on the South Coast of Jamaica where the water is very deep, (local residents and some visitors have drowned also) - the undertow takes them out into the rough seas…some have never been recovered...
The video is so disturbing & tragic - but shows us all how the sea can be! In Jamaica we have “Northers” that also affect the DR….around the same time (March 6th) we had red flags because of a “norther” all up on our beaches also as the waves were huge, and undertow powerful…we have the...
Hi there, no worries I have worked in tourism & hotel management in Jamaica (and before Bermuda) for many years, currently as a Jamaican living here in Jamaica I am at hotels a lot! And one of the RIU’s here is located just up the road from my house and I can attest to the amount of staff they...
It is not “mosquito season” currently in the Caribbean (as it cooler than usual at this time of year) usually that is rainy-humid season as pointed out above, but mosquitos are still out there - however…usually right by the sea & on the sand it would be sandflies more than anything, and that is...
I totally agree with this, it is so easy to drown. In tourism myself in Jamaica, and I can only say that our large all inclusive properties especially (like RIU) all have “night security watchmen” - their ONLY job at night is to walk the beaches (apart from the obvious gate security checks...
Agree with your bolded above. It is also conflicting to me. Red flags up means rough seas, dangerous currents. My sister lived in the DR for years, that side of the DR in Punta Cana (facing the Atlantic side) the sea is known for being very rough at times, & strong currents.
My sister had a terrible cold / Fever that literally started Dec 23rd, by the time she called a Doc to her house as she felt so sick, on the evening of the 24th - she had fluid in one of her lungs. Pneumonia could have fully settled in overnight. She remembers having a bad pain in her chest...
I had no idea how bad hantavirus was until someone mentioned it here, and I looked it up a few days ago. And hearing today about the way one should clean up the droppings.
They stated at the press conference earlier, that you have to be super careful when you “clean up the droppings” of these mice - even cautioned to wear a mask - seems like she would have been the one more exposed to that (cleaning?) And that it does not pass person to person. Maybe he was more...
