Did the jury get it wrong, or...

Well, I certainly knew very little about it before the trial, though I don't live in Florida. The news sources I read and listen to don't often report on stuff like this. I remember Dr. G saying she didn't know much about the case because she listens to NPR; same here. I think there's a ton...

Did the jury get it wrong, or...

I was referring only to the jurors who participated in deliberations and gave the verdict; AFAIK, that's only jurors 2, 3, and 6 (and #2 was anonymous, while no one has taken #6 up on his offer so far). Right, I just find it highly doubtful that they based their verdict on this (rather slight)...

Did the jury get it wrong, or...

Eh. Look, I have problems with the jury's vote on the manslaughter charge, but I think it's reaching to conclude that they voted "not guilty" for money. So far, only three actual jurors have come forward--one of them anonymously, and he spoke to only one newspaper. Juror 6 is asking for money...

Did the jury get it wrong, or...

Well, but that wasn't in evidence. I don't think that guy testified, right? And I think some of the jurors said they dismissed the molestation anyway. But they did, imo, prove that something not-so-innocent caused her to be dead and dumped in a swamp. And that, even if it were an accident...

For those who agree with the verdict...help me understand.

That is an interesting op-ed piece. You know, the more I think about the verdict for manslaughter, the more annoyed I get. I never thought this was a death penalty case and am glad she didn't get it; I was never convinced, though I could see how others were, that the state proved first-degree...

For those who agree with the verdict...help me understand.

Right--I mean, certainly she could have left Caylee with George, but that was never presented in evidence. It was not even a theory floated by either side, correct? And I'd think Casey would still be culpable for negligence for not reporting the alleged accident whenever she found out about...

Where did the prosecution go wrong?

I'd like to know more about why they dismissed the manslaughter charge as well; I don't understand how the murder one charge could have precluded any of the other charges, as some of the jurors have suggested. But was second-degree murder a separate charge? When the verdict was read, I only...

For those who agree with the verdict...help me understand.

I'm curious, too, and it's hard to discuss it rationally with so many rash accusations being thrown around. I don't think there's any evidence of stupidity, greed, laziness, or conspiracy on the part of the jury, so I'd like to know more about why they dismissed this charge. As far as I can...

    Support Thread: Jurors

Exactly! There are some great, calm, well-reasoned posts in this thread, most of which I agree with wholeheartedly. I'll echo them and say I'm really rather frightened by some of what's being said about the jury and the judicial system, both here and in some of the more sensationalistic...

Where did the prosecution go wrong?

I agree! I'm so dismayed by the unfailing tendency lately (everywhere, not just here) to bring politics into everything--the tendency to use political views to explain why someone does something you don't like. Yeah, this bears repeating. I asked weeks ago on this forum whether there was any...

    They have a verdict!!!!!!!!!

You know, I'm wondering the same thing. His statement was rather reserved, even a little wistful. He says he has "mixed feelings." It seemed to me--though I'm only guessing, of course--that if she had been convicted of child abuse or manslaughter, he'd have been okay with that. Exactly...

    Defense Team's Horrible Display Celebrating

I can't imagine why they wouldn't be celebrating; they won a major case. And I thought Baez's statement to the media was really pretty gracious--and he even seemed a little wistful. He actually said he has "mixed feelings" about the case, but he's glad he saved someone from the death penalty...

Who believes that Cindy should be prosecuted for perjury? Or is it just me...?

I agree. I'm not sure why we're still having this conversation, when the legal experts seem to agree that it's very difficult to prove perjury and it's extremely unlikely that the state will go after the grieving mother and grandmother. Many, many mothers have said they would lie to save their...

Do you believe that Lee Anthony lied on the stand?

I just don't see why that's scary. Nobody thought she was psychotic before Caylee died, so I can certainly see why her family would be the last ones to believe she did it. They've known her all her life. She wasn't first "introduced" to her family, as she was to the general public, as "child...

Has the defense created reasonable doubt?

Actually, the jury instructions, according to the "Ask the Judge" column on wesh.com, read: I think it's a bit more complicated than "connect the dots," particularly because the state has a burden of proof. I agree that the most likely scenario, from the evidence presented, is that Casey...
