York and Durham didn't even have homicide departments back then. It was a missing person's case from the beginning...just a bad series of events.

We can't assume it was his friends property, only that he knew the area. As we get more info, the more simpler the answers to the questions get. CH wasn't interviewed, just bad police work from top to bottom in this case.

This case has always been about the perfect storm of mistakes, tunnel vision and bad luck as it has been about finding the killer. York Police did not have a homicide squad back then. They also had poor record keeping (Kaufman). Durham tried to pin it on GPM. All of this allowed CH to...

Not really, but the Kaufman report touches on it why it wasn't followed up on. "An inadequate system to ensure that all reports were read and processed in a timely way. The potential for leads and follow-ups to slip through the cracks was present and, unfortunately, this did occur. There was a...

You are correct that it was not followed up on, but it's not clear whether the Horwoods sighting was on Ravenshoe Rd (10 minutes North) or Queensville Sideroad. It's possible police made up a second report of a sighting on Queensville Sideroad after they didn't follow up on the first one...

When you go after the wrong guy almost immediately you're going to miss things. York and Durham didn't have homicide departments back then, had horrible note keeping and interview practices, and likely didn't share much info. There is also the fact that there was just bad-some would say...

Technology builds a family tree. His name came up. He killed himself so they would have taken a blood sample-which they had. It was a match. He did it. Even without a DNA sample, as soon as his name came up they would have established a connection to the family and it would have been...

I doubt TPS will disclose this to the public, but I'd really like to hear what CH was doing in the mid 80's and why he wasn't looked at. Innoncence Canada is right in that it will take a third party to analyze why CH was not a suspect as I doubt TPS will publicly go after Durham or York Police.

You're asking questions that would be logical in the context of a normal investigation... This was treated as a missing persons case at the beginning. There were ordinary people mingling with police at the family home that evening. You had a rural police force, with no himicide unit, trying...

Yes, has to be a typo. Another seemingly minor error in a long list of things that makes everything just a little more confusing.

While there is a lot of blame to be pointed at Durham and York back then, it's worth noting that these police forces didn't even have homicide departments back then. It's why they treated it as a missing person's case and partially explains why evidence wasn't protected at the home etc.

Still baffling that police didn't know about or follow up on that phone call JJ had with HH. The York and Durham investigations were bad, but I can't imagine the Toronto cold case squad would not have looked into that if they knew about it, even 30 years later.

Disgraced Durham detective Bernie Fitzpatrick quit and moved to Newfoundland. Wasn't Hoover's wife from there as well?

Hoover did not live in Queensville at the time. Both JJ and KJ have confirmed this since the news broke last week. He lived in Richmond Hill or Toronto.

Yes, it's inconceiveable that that was not reported to the police and followed up on. Even if Durham and York Police ignored it, the Toronto cold case squad would have checked years later. My guess is, that just like the disputed time when they arrived home, they couldn't remember the details...
