I think the picture was just part of the distribution packet with the arrest warrant... Perhaps not intentionally. They have kept everything private ...even now. To say it was a selfie would have tipped AL that police were monitoring, I really don't think the pic was meant to be distributed...

There just had to be a trigger that gave them enough evidence right after the car accident to issue the warrant. Even AL being on their radar, the accident scene, something in the car he crashed or the photo itself had to trigger enough evidence for the warrant to be signed by a judge...at that...
