I don’t think it seems strange. A lot of people have been fixated on the blanket image and have made a lot of theories regarding this. Maybe he just wanted to set the record straight about the blanket after seeing all the theories around it plastered all over SM.

Are they assuming the Rolex stolen was from one of the men staying in the air bnb? If this is true, my wondering is this why he didn’t use the road to walk back to his hotel to avoid being seen? Was he afraid the men would wake up and notice the watch was stolen and come looking for him?

Surely if he made it to the church after 10 hours he would have come across a village of some sort where he could have found somewhere to charge his phone or something.
