I live in indiana. There is no such thing as a good part of Gary! Even working for the National Guard (civilian) in the early 90's , the guardsmen traveling to the armory were told not to travel through gary at night. I don't think this will end well.
It could be a state match up to a certain amount. Indiana use to do it for state employees. Not sure if the sheriff is married, but let's say he is. Maybe his wife makes decent money and they live off her money, allowing him to deposit as much as possible into the state match retirement...

See that's what I get for thinking. Morels should be in indiana April-ish, so warmer weather mixed with moisture in California figured it would be late February early March. Now I need to look at Wilson's site and see when they start posting cause i think I have confused myself.
The one place that I know for sure that sell "California" mushrooms hasn't posted any yet and yes they usually start at $50 per pound. (Yes they call them CA mushrooms.)
As dumb as it sounds, I would also have to wonder if she was robbed/killed for her mushroom haul. They go for about $50 a pound or more here in the midwest.
