Namus got back to me, so they are sending all the info we found here to the Police Department. I also wrote the Doenetwork and Charley Project to list Sydney's case.
Well, that didn't work too well. Just talked to the most rudest police department I've ever encountered who told me they absolutely will not confirm her DOD to me. So, I've emailed Namus and going to see if I can get one of my LEA contacts here to call.
I left a message, but didn't get a call back. Going to call again in a little bit...Think I found a picture of her as well.
I did find somethings out that are very odd, and sent Namus an email...
A man was using Sydney's socials for a few years, but is now deceased.
There's an arrest record...
I completely missed that...Definitely could be the case...I was involved with two "solves" over the years and both had that issue...Tonya Gardner in PA was never matched up to a Jane Doe in Maryland because her best friend had to estimate when she went missing (husband didn't report her...
Very true...I actually was told this is a huge issue with dna submissions...
I'm curious why Namus has this listed as 1991, and this article says 1985. Porchlight International for the Missing & Unidentified-Montanez, Sydney 1987
This article says she disappeared in 1987. But not completely sure this is a match since the DNA's been in Codis for years. Porchlight International for the Missing & Unidentified-Montanez, Sydney 1987
HOLY MOLY! I don't know how on earth I didn't see this till now Hannah...This is my pet case and I've literally been following it since the day it happened (I was hitchhiking on that same highway the day she was found - heading to Frederick)...She does indeed have a Connecticut connection...
I spoke with Baltimore County Police today. They are renewing efforts to find people who knew her around the time she disappeared. If you have contacts in Baltimore, please share this with them.
There's no DNA available. They have ruled a few out in the last couple years by dentals. One in PA that looked promising. I talk to one of the investigators on this case regularly.
