I guess in an age before DNA, they assumed that if they had the dentals/fingerprints (if a Doe wasn't skeletal), they had everything they needed to compare to missing people in the future - no need for the body anymore. Still wrong though, as the family might not have wanted their loved one to...
If the closest match is a second or even third generation immigrant, though (which probably are, since they have 'recent Croatian and Serbian ancestry') I don't think it matters that much if they were born in the US or not.
A man born in Serbia who uploads to GEDmatch probably is going to have...
To be fair, DNA tests are very uncommon in Serbia. There are likely to be hardly any Serbians in GEDmatch to begin with. So it would make sense that his closest matches would be distant US relations, even if he was born in Serbia. I'm from the UK and many of my matches in GEDmatch are distant US...
I did see the push a few months ago I think, so that's something! It would be cool if a broadcaster could take up the case and do a documentary. Compared to some other UID cases, this one has some unusual circumstances that might catch people's interest, like the way she died and the painting...
I wish this case were more well 'advertised' in the UK. I had never heard of it until finding this thread. Maybe it was in the local London media more (I'm in the Midlands). Hard for the recon to reach the right people (anyone who knew her) if it's not in the media much.
She may not even have...
Interestingly enough, I went to the National Justice Museum in Nottingham (England) last week, and they have a tissue sample from the Rouse case on display! Thought it was a weird coincidence since I just read about the case.
I think it's a shame that the UK's rules around genetic genealogy...
I do wonder if that's partly because a lot of the crowd aren't going to know Latin (and thus didn't understand who had actually been chosen) or perhaps didn't consider Prevost a front runner so they're not sure who he is
Proof that my dream from a few days ago was nothing more than a dream, at...
The BBC live stream has talked about how they're not expecting white smoke tonight... the first vote is often a show of respect, voting for people as a nod of seniority and respect such as maybe someone who you worked with, a former mentor, etc. The first vote is also used to see which names...
Well, I think it was just a dream based on me wondering who it would be. I dream a lot, and mostly complete nonsense! I would think if there is a God and they cared who the next pope was, they'd be sending any visions to the people in charge of that decision rather than a 20-something British...
I had a dream last night that it was one of the African candidates that was picked. I'm an atheist though, so I don't think God would be sending me of all people a vision ;)
Interested to see who is picked and what he'll do with the power and influence that gives him.
I'm still not entirely convinced. The MO isn't the same if the victim profile is too different. If Tanya had never engaged in sex work and all of the other victims have, plus the additional features of her being murdered with her toddler which is something we don't see for any other victim, then...
He mentions that Tanya may have worked at a doctor's office, and a neighbour or friend may have watched Tatiana whilst Tanya worked. It's mostly been assumed that Peaches was a sex worker, but maybe she didn't work in that field at all.
How sad that a young woman and her toddler can disappear...
This surprised me... he looked frail yesterday, but he didn't look like death was imminent.
RIP. I'm not Catholic or even Christian or even religious at all, but he seemed like a good man. I appreciate that he was more open and kind to the LGBTQ+ community than previous popes, and I hope the...
