I was confused by this too, but some one mentioned earlier that going that way is more bike friendly than going west and then getting onto Congress which would be a straight shot. It does appear she went a longer, less direct route.

She still had quite a ways to go. This was towards the beginning of her route. eta: I would say about 4 miles. She was not taking the most direct route but someone earlier said she was taking the more bike friendly route.

I don't think she meant it that way. She said it for drama but then explained she went to Taco Bell and then rode off with mace in hand.
