Thanks petedavo. Definitely haven't read it. I'm still trying to recall the other case with the shoe laces. I thought it was a child or young person. Kylie Maybury perhaps?
Similarities between cases, reminds me of the female toddler Rahma el-Dennaoui who went missing from her bedroom in NSW...
The Facebook Page of "Leave A Light On inc" has just put up a story on the murder of 12 year old Denise McGregor. She was abducted from near shops 1978. There was a possible attempted strangulation with shoe laces, before her head was bashed in with a rock or similar. Apparently DNA is available...
I'm leaning towards height being the common denominator. It can't be strangulation (just guessing?) because the body of HD has not been found. IDT the same type of car was involved / reported either.

I hope you can follow my thought processes here.
Can I presume that Wark is tall? Above average height?

BRE is tall. They were always looking for a tall perp - proven by their focus on the mayor and the public servant.
Therefore, my theory...

Name coincidence?
I wonder where the dog hair/s fit in? Is it possible that any of them had puppies at the time, and somehow lured him with the puppies? Sorry if this has already been suggested.
I think we need to know if all three of them were locked up at the time of Gerard's murder? My guess is that at least one may not have been (the unnamed one)? I am not making any accusations of course, but it would be helpful to know if all three were locked up at the time. jmo
The link provided by CV says that there were actually three people involved in the shoe stealing child murder. One of them was unnamed.
There is perhaps a slim chance that the third 'unnamed' offender may have been involved in the death of GR?
