It's possible. But there is actually a gas station about 1 mile before they would get to the turn to Chihuahua Valley Road. And they went pretty far up Chihuahua Valley road. Had they just turned around it would be much shorter back to that gas station.
With the direction they took. 76 ends at 79. There is no way to go straight. Once they turned left on 79, any turn into the reservation would be a right turn. I drive that road a couple times a year to go to Indio for singing contests.
If they had turned right at 79 towards Santa Isibell, yes...
There is no way to go straight at the turn. The road ends and you can only turn left or right.
Once you get on 79 it does not fork. It looks like they would have had to turn on to Chihuahua Valley road. It's a deliberate right turn and leads to dirt back roads by the scout camp.
But there is no...

Might be them.
If it is them. It would raise a big question as to why they went off the main road so far into some deserted back...
Honestly I don't watch the news on TV so I can't say for sure on TV. But as far as the local news websites and newspaper website there has been nothing. I do expect the local valley center paper to have something this week because they are 2 weeks behind.
If you look at all 3 of those routes they all contain the roads I suggested on steelmans map. Old Casle/Lilac, Pala/Temecula Rd and Highway 76 through the La Jolla ind Res.
If that is the route and estimating 15 mins out. I'd check between the grade to La Jolla Indian reservation and Santa...
The creek beds we have here are all dry as a bone. California is in a big drout.
All the lakes around here have shrank. Wholford has water but it's far away from the road unless you drive into a parking lot. Same with Henshw. There the closest area to the road is accessed by a parking lot, but...
The last 2 miles go down a steep grade. On the side going down which is the side they would drive it drops into a canyon. There are lots of trees at the start of the deep part., there are spotty guard rails but plenty of "holes".
There have been 2 cars found down there from just what I know.
One...
Lake Wholford is mostly level until the last 2 miles before escondido. It won't show on street view. I really don't like driving Wholford even as a local. I only drive it if the main grade is shut down because of an accident.
It's a steep drop off the side in spots for a while.
Ive only dealt with this one...

So far I haven't gotten a friend request from the other, but I didn't join, just post so....But I'll watch for a friend request.
She didn't claim to be admin. She posted with the group account name. As she posted as the person who posts the notes on the main page. So her post was by "Missing Paul and Diana" which would mean she had to be an admin of the group to post as the group name.
