No, according to reliable local sources Bear Notch Road is closed/not plowed in winter.

I´ve been following this sad case for years and I´ve always been of the opinion that Maura´s Saturn likely was involved in the Petrit Vasi hit-and-run in Amherst, whether Maura or a friend was driving the car at the time.

James, Interesting that you mention Jean's almost uncanny likeness to Maura. I was also struck by this when I saw the old newspaper photos of Jean Caccavaro. The apparent geographical coincidence is just weird...

Yes, she did apparently originally disappear from a fair in Newbury, VT, but her last known position according to various newspaper reports seems to have been near the NH Routes 112-116 junction in Easton Township, NH, some four or five miles to the east of Maura´s car crash site. Apparently...

I absolutely agree. The coincidence of the geographical location basically in the middle of nowhere in the White Mountains of NH is weird, to say the least. I also find it surprising that there seems to be no WS thread for Jean Ellen Caccovaro.

On quite another note: There is right now quite a discussion going on at the James Renner Maura Murray web site regarding a VT lady, Jean Caccovaro, 31, who apparently disappeared back in 1977 at the intersection of Rtes 112 and 116 at about the point where Maura was possibly/allegedly seen by...

Lolacat, My personal opinion is that the off-duty NH state trooper in question was just being kind while helping to search for Maura immediately after her crash and subsequent vanishing, this despite being off-duty. These unsubstantiated rumours have been circulating on the web on...

There have been hints in that direction, but nothing substantiated in any way whatsoever. There are unconfirmed rumours that the off-duty NH state trooper in question was supposedly "off-line" for an hour or two in connection with Maura´s disappearance. It must also be remembered that he was...

Having followed the MM blogs for many years, I seem to recall that the off-duty state trooper JKM assisted the school bus driver Mr Atwood in searching for Maura on the evening of Maura´s crash on Rte 112. According to unconfirmed reports over the years JKM and Mr Atwood went searching for...

I absolutely concur. Fireweed really hits it on the nail here IMHO.

I do concur. A great big BUMP! for Abby on this very special day!!! All the way from Scandinavia I follow four particular cases here on WB regularly: Abby, Maura Murray, Brianna Maitland and the haunting, but it often seems nearly forgotten case of Barbara Bolick of MT. This forum is just the...

On another note: I have always thought that the possible sighting of Maura at a Barton, VT, church on Fathers Day 2005 IIRC has been too easily dismissed. I personally belive that this mystery girl might well have been Maura. Would be interested to hear your opinions on this matter!
