Someone pointed out upthread that if the concerned relative was out of town, it would make sense for the local neighbor to call 911. A local call would get to local resources. That makes a lot of sense to me.

I would bet that there was a kids bedroom in the house. There were 7 bedrooms and this couple was very active in the kids' lives, so I bet at least one bedroom was set up for them with real beds. Just speculation, of course.

I wondered this as well, but if it was a scam he had to know he couldn't keep it from his wife forever. Unless she was in on it and wanted to come clean. I don't know. In most cases I can at least see where the perp was coming from, but not this one.
