CANADA Canada - 6 Missing Teens, Pickering, Ontario, 17 March 1995

The remains that were found were above Niagara Falls. For the boys to get there, they'd have to drive an overloaded 12-foot boat about 38 miles across Lake Ontario at night, and then go another 7 miles up the navigable part of the lower Niagara River, and then get out and walk another 8 miles...

CA - Ross Ulbricht & others for Silk Road online drug market, San Francisco, 2014

His income was in a currency called "bitcoins", which is basically internet funny money, not controlled by any government. And right now all of his bitcoins have been siezed. Here's a quick explanation about bitcoins: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24381847 He might have converted...

CA - Ross Ulbricht & others for Silk Road online drug market, San Francisco, 2014

He did pay $80,000 to have someone else tortured and killed, but it was a sting by the police. The evidence was faked. No one was actually killed. http://nation.time.com/2013/10/03/alleged-black-market-operator-indicted-in-new-murder-for-hire-scheme/

    Canada - 47 killed as train explodes, Lac-Megantic, QC, 6 July 2013

There's finally an official statement about where the locomotives ended up. Apparently the complete train rolled down the hill into the town. The locomotives were in the front and somehow stayed on the rails and continued on. But, of course, the other cars tipped over and detached in the middle...

    Canada - 47 killed as train explodes, Lac-Megantic, QC, 6 July 2013

Here's a cellphone video from when the train was parked (and on fire) about 7 miles away from the town. And then at some point after this, the train started rolling downhill towards the town...

    Canada - 47 killed as train explodes, Lac-Megantic, QC, 6 July 2013

Here's a photo of the train when it was parked several miles away from the town. A passerby noticed the train was on fire, but before any help could arrive, somehow the brakes were released (possibly the brake hoses burned through) and the train started rolling (the engines were running). And...

Ecuador - August Reiger, 18, US student, Banos, 16 June 2013

I'm just guessing (because there is no trail map) but I think the book is describing a longer hike that goes up on the plateau to Runtun and then winds around the back side and then back to Banos. But Mr. Reiger describes the up & down trails as being visible from the town, so my guess is...

Ecuador - August Reiger, 18, US student, Banos, 16 June 2013

There was a big search with police, firefighters, 60 members of the military, search dogs, helicopters... if he was anywhere near the trail I think they would have found him. So I don't think the little brother had anything to do with it...

Ecuador - August Reiger, 18, US student, Banos, 16 June 2013

What if August got to the top and then kept right on going, on the downhill trail back to the town? And then when he was back at the town level, ran into some random street crime situation there? Such as getting mugged and ending up in an alley or back room of a store? In the news articles...

Ecuador - August Reiger, 18, US student, Banos, 16 June 2013

Thank you! I finally found a photo of the road, this is from the hotel at the top, looking north-east. So it is a real road. And there are so many houses around, it's not wilderness, I don't see how anyone could get lost up there. It's a real mystery. Original photo page...

Ecuador - August Reiger, 18, US student, Banos, 16 June 2013

The trail on the 3-hour hike is visible to the town. But when you get to the top point of the hike, there is a big plateau up there, with small farm fields, a village called Runtun, a restaurant "Cafe del Cielo", a luxury hotel "Luna Runtun", and a road leading down to the next valley. So if you...
