I grew up on Long Island in Valley Stream and lived in Rockville Centre (also on L.I.) for a number of years. Ocean Parkway stretches along one or more "barrier islands and is one route that you can take to Jones Beach. It can be reached from the Meadowbrook Parkway, Wantagh Parkway and from...
I agree with you. Like you, I believe the more you show, the better. Many of us learn visually - and it helps to see how it works. Of course, showing that may actually illustrate how tight a squeeze it is and how long it actually takes to climb out of that hatch.
I just watched the safety video and have these observations:
Is this the finished video? It would be better if there was a voice-over. For example: "The safety hatch is at the ___ end of the bunkroom directly above ____"
Not sure if this is the speed the video is intended to play at, but I...
Right now it's one of those he said/he said moments. However, I believe the crewmember who checked "on and around the galley area" also told investigators that he/she went back to the bunk and fell asleep. It is unclear if it was that same crewmember or another who heard the bump that led...
I found the answer to question #2 or my previous post. [2. Report states it is based on interviews with 3 crew members. Do all 3 definitively know that no one was on watch? Why weren't the other 2 crew members interviewed? Did they lawyer up?]
Excerpts from an article on the KTLA 5 News...
I have been following a scuba divers forum and will say that the majority of the forum's members consider the fact that there was no watch a breach of trust and pretty much there is no excuse for this. Some questions:
1. Did the Captain not assign a watch (knew no one was watching) or did the...
Link to an article posted Thursday, Sept 12 in the LA Times:
Conception crew members were sleeping when boat fire
broke out, in violation of rules
SANTA BARBARA —
"All crew members were asleep when the Conception caught fire early on Labor Day, the National Transportation Safety Board said...
FYI - The Vision is a similar ship to the Conception, but not a "sister ship," so it is not identical; they were built a number of years apart. I believe the stairs on the Conception were more curved, some described them as spiral. The escape hatches were pretty similar. On another forum someone...
I understand your point and I agree, somewhat.
However, most people operate under the assumption that if they go on a trip such as this excursion, some of these questionable safety issues and boat designs would be thought out a bit better. State and national government and safety entities are...
I have been following Websleuths as well as various divers forums. I know that such forums are not regarded as something I can quote from, but I will say that some of the posters had been on overnight dive trips with Truth Aquatics and some on the Conception. The consensus among them is that...
Just saw this in an article appearing online in the N.Y. Daily News:
"The victims appear to have died from smoke inhalation, not burns, authorities said Friday.
“The indicators are from the preliminary examination of the bodies that the victims died prior to being burned,” Santa Barbara...
Both exits opened up into the galley of the boat - but on different ends. According to eyewitnesses, the escape hatch opened to an area that faced an opening from the galley to the deck and one would take 3 or so steps to get out of the galley. However, according to the eyewitnesses, that area...
