Imo...she 'wanted ' to be normal, by having all those things. But, she herself wasn't normal.

She may have answered the door thinking it was whomever had just dropped her off. I can see where someone would do that.

Looks like they're checking her backyard and hopefully the surrounding area near her home. If, they've already done this, no harm in checking it again.
