Yes, very obvious. Also did you notice during the part where he said he thought that he and Rebecca were going to go into the house and discuss the situation, but that she didn't show interest and because it would be just the 2 of them and that she was of a different sex....can't remember...

Maybe it would be easier to understand if you had ever been accused of something you didn't do (nothing so horrendous as any kind of crime) and just because you KNEW better felt you had the right to tell the truth about someone even though everyone else believed otherwise.
