I think this is right, and that there were no murders between MH and Hannah Graham. JM must have known about the DNA link between MH and the Fairfax rape, and also that the sketch of the rapist/murderer looked a lot like him. That would have made him very cautious about committing another...

As I understand it, MH's body was "skeletonized" when it was discovered 3 months after her disappearance -- basically nothing but bones. Perhaps fingernails can survive intact that long outside, I don't know for sure.
