It takes longer than three days before a dead body starts to smell. If the dead body is in a casket and the casket is shut and you open it on the third day it does not smell yet but there is dark spots on the body at that time.

This is so true , my father was found after he was about 2 weeks already dead and I went by the house and it has a sweet smell that I still have in my nose and that has been 20yrs ago.
