Good point. His grandparents had 10 children, and they each had children of their own. That may be a lot of people to split up the wealth of the grandparents. They might be well off, but not necessarily rolling in dough.

I think it was to buy him more time before the NYPD responded. NYC has Shot Spotter technology, which detects gunshots and can notify police of the location. I'm betting that the silencer was a counter measure to this.
I understand that e-bikes are big targets for theft. Would it make sense if he conveniently left the e-bike someplace where it would be easy for a new owner to acquire it? During the early hours after the murder, everyone thought he was on a CityBike, so privately owned e-bikes weren't likely...
