Australia Australia - Isla Bell,19, Brunswick, Victoria, 4 Oct 2024 *arrest*

Unbelievable. A suspect with an extensive criminal history, including violent crimes, with money and means to escape overseas, is given bail. How many times do magistrates have to let this country down?? Do women's lives mean so little??

You make perfect sense. I have also been following this case after seeing social media posts about a month ago, and was pretty shocked by how little MSM attention it was getting, especially compared to some other cases. Now her poor family have to deal with not only learning the horrific details...

Sounds like the police made one of the arrests just in time - I wonder if they realised they'd have to strike now: "It is alleged Mr Yaffe was due to fly out of Australia to Bulgaria on Wednesday, having purchased flights after being interviewed by police."...

This article has a very thorough rundown of how they all converged, based on court documents. Her body ended up in a Dandenong tip after being placed in a residential bin by an unaware stranger :( It's just devastating, as someone familiar with all these suburbs it's really hitting close to...

Definitely. He's never expressed sorrow for her - just self-serving comments about "why did this happen to me, me, me." Horrid little narcissist.

Yeah, nothing wrong, really. Just choked, assaulted and tormented a woman *shrugs* NBD, just another day in the life of a brah.

Heh, though that's rather offensive to pigs, which are lovely, intelligent creatures.

I think it's a big call to say that. No one I've ever known, or anyone my family or immediate circle of friends knows, has ever been charged with a crime. Also, people are wrongfully convicted all the time, regardless of what either of us thinks about this particular case. This one decision...

The fact that the jury took so long to reach this conclusion, and kept returning with pertinent questions that the judge then told them to ignore, indicates they weren't happy about coming to this conclusion. The judge didn't give them any other choice, and basically forced their hand.

The majority of posters here are Australian, and have an understanding of how the word "chuck" is used by their compatriots. It's generally used when one is talking about throwing and using force.

Anyone who's ever followed a rape trial will know these sorts of factors are raised by the defence all the time. <modsnip>

Questions like this are creating a false equivalence, and are a tactic often favoured by MRAs. If the situation were reversed, chances are the context and circumstances would be entirely different from those in this case. If, however, the woman in this imaginary scenario behaved exactly as GT...
