I feel like it shows how erratic he was.
Drug use - particularly meth - can cause paranoia which would explain the bed sheet over the windows. But, honestly, after murdering his parents and leaving the scene he had a right to be paranoid.
He may not have had a plan, per se, but maybe panicked...
Not only that but asks his family to pray for his victims.
Just bizarre.
I wish, if these people are determined to leave this world that they would just do it without targeting innocent people.
I am wondering what information made them name the suspect.
Did a family member name him? Were there threats made that made them suspect?
According to this article from NBC News, the sister-in-law of the grandmother didn't suspect anything.

I noticed in the obituary that it lists Austin as Cortney's sister's husband.
I know that you can write whatever you want in an obituary but just found that interesting as they aren't married that I am aware of.

Gene and Betsy both led private lives for many, many years and it seems that Betsy was trying her hardest to keep it that way during Gene’s health decline. MOO.
