Quite possibly they snagged a drone, equipped with a camera or phone, up in a tree. That would be fantastic evidence, depending on what footage it contains.
IIRC, Blessing was found in the alley by neighbors after the empty car turned up safely. One can only imagine that if the thieves had disappeared the car into a body of water, Blessing would still have to "reappear" sooner or later.

I'm wondering if the car was found off the road with a flat, in a ditch, maybe? Even if that was the extent of the damage, I could see someone being startled by a tire blowing out, swerving off the road and considering that a crash.
