Maybe it was one of those things where he didn't want to take his own worries seriously. Sometimes you can be in two minds with something, he might of thought 'nah, she will be ok'. By morning he's trying to call and her phone is switched off, now he's getting seriously worried, and so bundles...
Because it is still a mystery. A life has been taken. With suicide the mental illness takes the life. With murder it's someone else's mental illness that takes the life. Either way it's spooky, harrowing, mysterious and leaves people asking questions. And sleuthing is better than being told off...
He was also very busted, and left a giant mess. It's very possible. Anything is. But I always just try to stick to the most sensible scenario, the most likely statistically. Which keeps taking me back to suicide. Where there's murder there is mess. In this case there is zero mess.
