He apparently grew up in the area (Hoopa, I believe), and there were some rumors he may have been there when she disapeared. His family denied it. No solid connection that I know of. Does anyone know if Ward Weaver from Oregon was ever positively eliminated as a suspect? I've never heard if it was established whether he was in Hoopa at the time or not.
