Maybe they both died of exposure together. Laid down and never woke up together.
They had to have been starving, thirsty, exhausted. Couldn't fight it anymore. Just walked away and died.
My only question then would be, if they didn't murder him, or the couple, why run?
Why not just face the authorities and let the evidence speak for itself?

Most Canadians are taught at a young age to not get out of the vehicle when bears are around. Mostly cause they can and will kill you. Especially if it's a momma bear.
