Could be a long shot, but this man was just arrested in Iowa. Long history of off-the-road trucking. Strangled some of his victims and then dumped them, naked, in ditches. He graduated high school in 79...so the timeline could be off, but it very well could match, as he could have been driving...
Carl, when did this gentleman say he met Kathy again? Was it the summer prior to her murder? If so, Madisonville being so close to Huntsville would mean Kathy may have been familiar with the area.
Vital, I've actually compiled an Excel sheet of birth records of "Kathleens/Cathleens/Kathys/Cathys" from around Aransas Pass and Rockport who were born between 59 and 68. I have full access to Ancestry.com, and I decided to look into our girl when I felt burned out from genealogical research...
Allow me to correct myself:
IF WCJD was under 18, she MAY NOT have had to produce identification per the current TDCJ policies. Accepted forms of identification for minors include school ID cards.
Great question and reminds me of a fact that has always bothered me. WCJD doesn't fit the serious runaway mold...meaning I do not think she was "on her own" for more than a few weeks at the very most. She was well-nourished and taken care of for most if not all of her life. It's possible she...
One of my first thoughts re Hurricane Harvey was about WCJD and some of you dedicated Websleuthers down in southern TX. My thoughts are with all of you. Please stay safe!!!
Mia, I know you are in the Huntsville area/at least somewhat close by. I had an "AH HA!" moment as I was working on my family tree this past weekend...
Library "special collections" and genealogical centers in towns/counties often have yearbooks spanning decades. At this point, maybe it's...
Is the hotel this photo was taken at still standing? If so, has there been any follow up with the management regarding records? Given that I'm personally convinced (and many others) that Kathy/Cathy is our girl, I would imagine it'd be worth a shot finding out and perhaps tracing the guests who...
Creech has been the only one on that list that has even remotely piqued my interest in this case. However, I highly doubt that she could have stayed alive and traveled to TX in that time. Just my opinion. I don't think WCJD is/has ever been reported, sadly.
Very frustrating to hear. This is a STATE and not FEDERAL prison, correct? Let me connect to fellow attys I know in TX to see if I can drum up some leads on how to go about finding these records. Trust me, they are somewhere. The question is whether they are public/physically capable of being...
Think it's a long shot that the Texas Prison Museum in Huntsville might have tips on how we can go about investigating WCJD's interest in Ellis?
