Much of the information about this case is in Chinese, and the censorship regarding this case is also off the rails. I will translate and offer as much info as I can - Yu deserves justice.

The official narrative per police is that he drunkenly jumped from the 5th floor of his apartment complex. I found that odd immediately because you could potentially survive from that height (I had a friend jump 6 stories and broke her back but she lived and is doing better now).

An insider [reported] that Yu Menglong was having a meal with 5 – 6 good friends at a friend’s house on September 9. On September 11, at around 2 am, Yu Menglong went to the bedroom to sleep and locked the door from the inside. At around 6 am, as his friends were leaving, they didn’t see him. When they went downstairs, they discovered his body. A neighbor who was walking their dog saw and called the police. The police have already ruled out this being a criminal case. The cause is still being investigated.

However, several videos of CCTV footage and pictures are doing the rounds on the internet in which a man thought to be Yu Menglong was seen breaking free from a murder attempt. He is also seen walking across a parking lot when someone grabs him and hits him multiple times.

Leaked accounts suggest that Yu’s death may have been the result of a carefully planned murder, allegedly linked to a money-laundering scheme within the entertainment industry. Reports claim that as many as 17 individuals—including actors, directors, screenwriters, producers, financiers, and even the children of high-ranking officials—were implicated.

According to these reports, Yu refused to take part in the scheme and secretly recorded evidence, storing it on a USB drive. When attempts to retrieve it through threats failed, he was allegedly subjected to escalating violence. Accounts describe forced intoxication, drug injections, assault, and other forms of torture, ultimately leading to his death.

When his body was discovered, his abdomen was reportedly wrapped in bandages. Descriptions of Yu’s injuries—multiple broken ribs, missing teeth and fingernails, facial disfigurement, and signs of severe blunt-force trauma—have intensified public outrage, though official confirmation remains absent.

Despite the silence of state media and the protection of powerful interests, Yu’s death has sparked a surge of grassroots anger. Many view the incident as emblematic of broader issues: the erosion of public trust, the unchecked influence of elites, and the silencing of ordinary voices. What began as grief for a fallen star has evolved into a wider debate over power, accountability, and justice.

One user wrote, "#YuMenglong...He didn't kill himself. It was a homicide! In China, the truth has been covered up! I hope international friends pay attention to it! This is a life! Whoever he is. We need the truth. Pray for the whole nation to speak up for him! Good things happen to good people".

People are even being arrested for even talking about this in China.
