Dan Abrams is hosting the 10 PM MSNBC slot. He just reported that Karr was married to a 12 year old!!!

This is the most bizarre twist in the Ramsey case that I could ever have imagined!

I never truly believed that either of the Ramsey parents brutalized and murdered JonBenet - but, I don't think that Boulder LE have their perpetrator in John Mark Karr either. Too bad :(

I am leaning toward the same thot..I dont think it was the ramseys-but if he truly said he picked her up from school when schools were closed and she was with her parents..how can that be an honest confession.
I dont know the source unless it was him-I heard it on CNN just now..
I think he is mentally ill..and he believes he did this..but if he had any knowledge of the case as most imply he would know that..I think he is in a mental breakdown.

He looks like a concentration camp survivor - how could he attract anybody??
i was thinking the same thing-not concentration camp-just too weird for words-he would send me running - I wouldnt want to talk to him if I had the chance to right now. I wouldnt put myself anywhere near that kind of energy-it would scar me for life.

OK, I was watching this retired high school teacher from his hs and this guy was a joke! The idea he was a TEACHER made me laugh and cry at the same time. He was almost unable to speak plain english and made many errors of speech while replying to questions on TV! Plus, he had a country accent that made it hard to even understand what he was saying. To me, that speaks volumes about the general area and whether or not it's acceptable to get married at such a young age (especially 20 or so years ago). I'm from the south, and rural areas have age-old ideas about all that. As has been mentioned before, there's a big difference between Atlanta and some little wide place in the road in Alabama. I'm from North Carolina, and was born in a nice-sized town, but the social mores were quite old-fashioned. My cousin (many years older than I) married a young 14 year old when he was 25 and had just returned from the Korean War! They had 8 kids! It was just strange to see them together. The wife acted like one of her children! Eeeekkk! Also, when you live in a small area, there are not too many fellas to choose from, so a guy like this Karr nut was probably an excellent catch! I also think those really young girls willing to marry him speaks volumes! He'd never have been able to get a woman his own age the least bit interested in him, but a young girl might because he knows (obviously) how to appeal to children!!!

gaia:eek:

Hey all ... :)

The girl that Karr married when she was supposedly "14" is disputed by the girl's mother who stated that she was only "12" at the time of the union.

In a number of published & media reports - the girl was "13" - John Karr said she was "14" - the mother of the girl, who certainly should know best the age of her daughter stated that her daughter's age was "12" as reported by Dan Abrams .. so, who knows! Lots of misinformation being published or broadcast in the media.

(Sorry that I do not have direct link to post. I read the info from published article links on the JBR forum and several cable news programs.)

I guess, in the more rural areas of Georgia & Alabama, it doesn't much matter how young the child is. Damn shame! :( Whether 12, 13, or 14 - wasn't she was still a child under the law??

The other wife (#2 - age 16) stated that a very controlling Karr (24) set about getting her pregnant right away so that parental consent would not be necessary.

Here in Florida - at least in Central Florida (not a rural area) .. it's definitely not a common occurance for 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 year olds to 'get married'. Maybe - 50 to 100 years ago it was - but certainly not in the last 50 years with the educational opportunities afforded to women.

That said - sadly, it is much more common in this highly sexualized & permissive "anything goes" society for many girls to become pregnant at a much younger age .. and to either seek repetitive abortions (shudder!) - or to give birth to babies of several different fathers and live on the taxpayer's dime .. uh, dollars.

VERY common for couples to live together without getting married and equally as common for many young couples to have children and still 'no marital commitment' for the legal benefit of those children.

Unfortunately, it's a much different world today - far more permissive, drug addicted & violent, than the one I grew up in. (50's - 60's)

what i found interesting is the marriage being annuled because the woman feared for her life-that shows me a very cruel part to this man

JonBenet suspect once married to 12-year-old

(Thanks to my IRC friend for the heads-up)

Thanks so much for that link, Shana. :)

The Rocky Mountain News

August 17, 2006

The suspect in the JonBenet Ramsey slaying once married a 12-year-old girl after getting her to lie about her age, the girl's mother says.

At the time, John Mark Karr was about 18, said Melissa Shotts, the mother of Quientana Shotts Ray.

"He took her out of state," Melissa Shotts of Hamilton, Ala., said in an emotional interview.

"No one can understand what we went through at the time."

She declined to offer many details, except to say that was a horrible experience for her daughter and the family.

"This happened 20 years ago," the mother said, "and to see him on the news, we were shocked."

She said that after the marriage, the couple eventually returned to Hamilton.

"He was abusing her every way there was," Shotts said.

Alabama records show that Quientana Shotts four years ago married a man named Jeremy Ray. The couple was unavailable for comment.

At one point, Quientana Shotts filled out an online profile with ICQ.com in a section marked "Wicca, Shamanism, Paganism." She listed her address as Hamilton.

Isn't "age 12" equal to about 6th or 7th grade??
