Two hundred Bangladeshi couples were married in a mass ceremony meant to make a statement against dowry payments, a frequent trigger for domestic violence, press reports said on Saturday.
The non-governmental Chasi Chashi Kalyan Samity gave each couple gifts worth 10,000 taka after they pledged to reject the dowry tradition.
Dowry payments or gifts, customarily given by brides' families to grooms, are officially banned in Bangladesh
