Yes, Lady Mcbeth with the speck of blood is a great analogy.

A sort of displacement activity and something 'to do' that could focus his mind and obsessing?

JMO
Trying to shut a barn door after cows out etc.
it is human to try to right an unfixable error with just plain activity, MOO his defense attorney is doing the same, flurries of motions that can't change the spot touched on the sheath.

Also he may not have intended to commit the same crime as it played out in reality. So he had maybe immaculately predicted what efforts LE would take to trace a perpetrator and how many resources they'd have available to them.
If he entered that property intending to SA one person at knife point and somehow left having killed four innocents, his calculations about what resources and funding would be available to LE for searching for a perp would be blown.
Agree with this. His preparations were unfortunately more than adequate for a college rape.

My understanding of the law is the once trash is put at the curb, then it is considered "abandoned" and OK for LE to retrieve it, regardless of whose house the trash is at. So, BK putting trash in the neighbor's trash can wouldn't do anything insofar as protecting his DNA from LE. He was apparently wearing dishwashing gloves to sort the trash.
The "dishwashing gloves" was simply a characterization by the defense; they would use that same phrase if they were referring to latex gloves, which plausibly could be described at "kitchen gloves." It sounds a hell of a lot less incriminating when they do that, so it's a smart move, especially when the goal is to influence public opinion.

BK putting his trash in the neighbor's trash can would protect his DNA from LE in his mind. If law enforcement didn't look there, then he had accomplished his goal. He wasn't worried about legalities.

This is where his corrupt thought processes are revealed.

And something akin to OCD. He knew his DNA was a lynching. It probably became an obsession that he couldn't not think, and it became increasingly intrusive, if I wash my hands enough, if I were enough sets of gloves, if I separate my trash from my families...compulsive. Fueled by illogic.

Lady Macbeth, trying to wash off an imaginary speck of blood.

Guessing his internal stress load was off the charts.

JMO

I think you could argue that it wasn’t illogical at all, considering he killed four people and knew there was a good chance he had left his DNA behind.
If he could just prevent his DNA from ever being collected for the rest of his life he would be home free.
Ohhhhhh….except for that genealogy genetic thing. Too bad, so sad.

Great summary with one correction: the two surviving roommates were not both sleeping on the first floor.

The first line on page 4 of the 12/29/2022 affidavit reads: "D.M. stated she originally went to sleep in her bedroom on the southeast side of the second floor; D.M. stated she was awoken at approximately 4:00 am..."
It's not mentioned in my reconstruction summary that DM or BF were sleeping on the 1st floor. Guess I missed something??? ;)

Kohberger’s case summary filed in Ada County District Court shows a Feb. 24 motion titled “Strike Death Penalty RE: Autism Spectrum Disorder.” However, details of the motion remain unclear since it was filed with the court under seal, meaning the documents are not public record.

"Winning Strategy." Smarter Than...?
I wonder how many degrees of separation he tried to create. Dummy accounts. Gift card vs credit card purchases. Aliases.

For all his advanced knowledge, he botched just about every step.

Purchase the murder weapon on Amazon.
Wear distinctive-soled shoes.
Wear coveralls you purchased, save the tag.
Drive a vehicle with an obvious missing front plate.
Bring your phone along. Flip it to airplane mode midway.
Enter the house when occupants are awake and moving around.
Leave your DNA on the bed.
Lose your job.
Get caught separating your personal trash from your family's.

Winning strategy.

JMO
@Megnut Thx for your ^ summary.

Yep, coulda, maybe, possibly, mighta been a winning strategy if the perp had committed these homicides in Mayberry, N. Carolina w Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife the only officer on the job. ;)

Seriously, I was mulling over a comment posted occasionally since his Dec. 2022 arrest - that BK thought he was smarter than LE.

Okay, BK may be smarter in some ways than some individual LEOs, say a few he personally encountered, perhaps leading him to believe that he had super-powers.

Did BK's line of thinking start to crumble w his arrest, when [ETA: maybe ] he recognized he was not smarter than a LE department? Especially when that dept was assisted by other LE agencies?

In midst of pre-trial motions, briefs,& hearings, is there further disintegration of his belief? How smart does he think is now?

Will BK cling to his self-assessment until trial?
Will his hopes & dreams vaporize after conviction?
Can he cling to this vain delusion while pursuing an appeal & other post-conviction relief?

IDK.

It's in this paragraph of your reconstruction summary (relevant sentence BBM):
By around 2:00 a.m., the house likely settled into a quiet state, with the victims retiring to their rooms. Kaylee and Madison shared a third-floor bedroom, while Xana and Ethan were in Xana’s second-floor room. The surviving roommates were on the first floor, separated from the upper levels.

Actually, it IS an HOA neighborhood, they pay just under $900 a year for the privilege.

TRASH.

Thx @MeadowMuffin :) for the link to redfin.com site.

I know that HOA amenities vary widely. Trash removal may or may not be included in some HOA's a$$e$$ments.

Per info below, "trash" (presumably removal) is specifically included as HOA amenity at BK's parent's property. Could not help it, had to see it in black & white myself, found it at ¶ for Location.

  • "Association Amenities: Security, Gated, Clubhouse, Playground, Tennis Court(s), Other, Trash"

Regardless of whether or not I was having to pay for trash collection, I still would not want a neighbor to sneak onto my property, under cover of darkness and discard anything into my bin. For posters who want to believe that someone may have somehow planted BK's DNA onto the knife sheath, just wondering, is that any different than him attempting to hide evidence, his DNA, at a location other than his own? KInda the same thing, imo

I feel sorry for Bryan's family..they kept trying to believe in him...it's really such a tragedy. I'm sure they were beyond exhausted with him and his pots and pans and all his probs. mOO

It was reported that when BK was moving into the apartment in student housing, his father urged a neighbor to become BK's friend as he didn't have any in the area. I think it likely that at least that member of his family knew he was odd and had trouble making friends, felt sorry for him as a result, and likely made accommodations on his behalf.

Many parents might do the same if their child "wasn't fitting in."

OK. DNA that we are talking about is not a tiny strand under a microscope. For DNA testing, it is extracted from nucleated cells. To get DNA, you have to have source of nucleated cells - blood, saliva, epithelium of the oral mucosa, sweat if it contains shed skin cells, hair roots. Seldom would touch DNA come from just one cell; “touch” like a fingerprint contains shed epithelial cells, sweat and sebum (another potential source of DNA).

So if you use biometrics on your phone, you can leave DNA on the screen. Theoretically, someone who doesn’t like you can take your cell phone (not touching the screen) and rub the screen against something (including the button of the sheath) where people want to leave your incriminating DNA. They can steal your worn T-shirt and rub the collar against the same button of the sheath.
<modsnip - off topic>

So I made notes. It was a little bit strange after that to not hear anbout any murderer’s DNA on the crime scene but, the case was closed.

But, if you subscribe to the theory, it is hard to let go. If DNA can be even transferred from one person to another and they are not in direct contact, which I btw, fully believe can happen, then the same fact could be used as a counter argument against “BK’s touch DNA on a sheath button irrefutably proves that he was the killer.” Maybe there will be a wealth of another information during the trial - as I have said, I am split about “BK’s the killer” theory but not against it. If anything, I just can’t believe that he worked alone, that’s all. But…maybe.

Mostly, you just can’t ardently persuade the public why touch DNA is irrelevant in one case and then assume they will forget, you know?
And the way you break this down is the reason they have added Bicka Barlow (an expert on DNA forensics) to their team. JMO

I don't think they're ever allowed to show booking photos to juries. It's like showing a defendant in prison clothes or shackles
Defendants/prisoners show up in court all the time in their state issued uniform/jump suits. The state I live in has a system called (kool) you can look up inmates a get their info and their photo is there also for the public to see.

I posted on this a while back. Yes you might do this for your child but not a young adult man. JMO

Totally agree. And even with a young child, you'd likely work on helping them develop the tools (and community in which) to make friends rather than step in and do it for them.
