um, this!
I join you in this. It must have filled family members with hope that just a few years after rehab for addiction to a serious drug, BK seemed to have straightened himself up physically and found a vocational path in which he excelled (at least while studying at DeSales). His father clearly looked proud when pointing out that BK was in the doctoral program at WSU when they were stopped for a traffic violation in Indiana.
The arrest weeks later for such a heinous crime must have been devastating and the prospect of the death penalty compounds that devastation. Yet, it cannot be denied that all those consequences and their likely impact upon his family members was known in advance by BK.
